Many men and women normally strive to take the best possible care of their skin. While our culture associates quality skin care with long-lasting good looks, in reality, the process is still a fight against the clock. Unfortunately, aging happens to all of us, whether we are ready or not. Time can show on our skin, and slowly rob us of that youthful glow. There are procedures that can help keep skin looking healthy and youthful, despite these inevitable changes.

Microneedling with Rejuvapen Therapy

Microneedling in Virginia Beach, also referred to as Rejuvapen therapy, is a non-laser treatment that stimulates the body’s collagen production, creating fresh, new tissue. The microneedling process involves a motorized wand (Rejuvapen) with nine, meticulously spaced tiny needles. Gently passed over the skin, these needles create invisible perforations, injuring the top layer of tissue. The very small grooves will stimulate the body’s healing process, kick-starting the production of collagen and elastin; both of which are vital to healthy, firm skin. This process of self-repair makes the results from microneedling 100% natural. Fine lines, large pores, and acne scarring are reduced after treatment. Firmer skin with stronger elasticity can be seen in just months. The overall condition of the skin will improve with Rejuvapen therapy, giving you a refreshed, rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.

The Microneedling Procedure

Microneedling at The Choe Center in Virginia Beach uses a process referred to as percutaneous induction skin therapy. This state-of-the-art therapy causes controlled injuries to the target area that are easy for the body to heal, allowing your skin to reap the benefits of the healing process. Each Rejuvapen treatment takes about an hour. Normal activities can be resumed one day after the procedure. Depending on the treatment area and the level of correction, the Rejuvapen has an adjustable needle, ranging from .2 it 2.5mm. This means each treatment can be customized to the individual patient’s needs.

To begin the microneedling treatment session, your skin will be cleaned and a topical numbing cream will be applied for maximum comfort. The Rejuvapen smoothly moves over your skin at varying speeds and needle depths. Each pass causes a controlled injury to the skin, which then activates the natural healing process – stimulating the formation of collagen and elastin in the process. Platelet-rich plasma is sometimes applied for patients who are seeking maximum benefits.

Immediately after a Rejuvapen treatment, it is normal for your skin to appear red or inflamed. In 12 to 24 hours, the redness will disappear. Most patients can resume normal daily activities around this time. Use of a protective sunscreen is recommended for the first twelve hours, as the tissue is delicate. The day after treatment, it is safe to apply your normal makeup.

A minimum of three to four treatments, each spaced at least four weeks apart, is recommended for best results. Benefits from the Rejuvapen treatment are not immediate, as it takes the body about four weeks to synthesize new collagen stores. However, most patients see some degree of improvement after the first microneedling appointment. The best results will take two to three months after the final treatment to appear. Acne scar repair usually requires five to six treatments, as opposed to the minimum of three for other skin treatments.

My experience with Dr. Choe’s practice has been nothing short of excellent! Dr. Choe is highly knowledgeable and educated, and his sense of aesthetic artistry and attention to detail are second to none! He is also quite personable and takes the time to understand the patient’s goals and concerns, developing a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan to achieve the desired results. He provides thorough education and answered any questions I had during our initial consultation, and I felt confident about the in-office procedure he recommended as well as his input on my longer term goals. Everything went smoothly, and I couldn’t be happier with the natural results. I look forward to seeing Dr. Choe again for any treatment needs going forward, and I also want to add that his practice staff, clinical and administrative, are professional and friendly, making me feel welcome from my first contact with the practice and in all subsequent interactions. Highly recommend Dr. Choe and his practice!

Why choose microneedling from The Choe Center?

While there are many topical collagen and elastin treatments on the market, these products are not as effective as microneedling. As the molecules of collagen and elastin are too large to fit into the pores, topical treatments are unable to produce noticeable results. Rejuvapen therapy is different because it promotes the formation of collagen and elastin naturally, from the inside out. The benefits of the microneedling procedure are not the result of an injection or cream, they come from the body naturally producing healthier, more youthful skin. Microneedling treatments stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen. As the body’s healing process creates stronger, more youthful tissue, wrinkles, and fine lines disappear, erasing years from the appearance. The signs of sun damage will diminish, along with acne scars, stretch marks, and areas of hyperpigmentation. The Rejuvapen will make the skin appear firmer, feel tighter, and become healthier overall.

The Ideal Candidate for microneedling

If you are unhappy with marks or scars on your skin, treatment with Rejuvapen might be the procedure for you. An ideal candidate would be in generally good health with a realistic understanding of the risks and benefits of Rejuvapen treatment. Potential patients should be in generally good health and understand the microneedling treatment/recovery process. However, Rejuvapen is not for everyone. Virginia Beach Patients with an open wound, skin infection, a history of poor healing, or recent Accutane use should avoid this treatment. During your personal consultation, the skin experts at The Choe Center will determine if microneedling can be a valuable part of your skin’s treatment plan.

Risks of Microneedling

Microneedling is safe for use on almost any area of the body. While complications from the Rejuvapen are rare, side effects of treatment include redness and tenderness. More serious risks associated with the treatment include skin irritation, scar formation, changes in skin pigmentation, and infections.
