Botox® for Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Underarm Sweating)
At The Choe Center for Facial Plastic Surgery in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Dr. Kyle Choe performs Botox® injections for the treatment of hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive underarm sweating. Though Botox® is perhaps best known for improving the appearance of frown lines, it is also FDA approved for the treatment of hyperhidrosis.
For many individuals, excessive underarm sweating can be very distressing. Both the odor and wetness can be a source of embarrassment. Fortunately, Botox® treatment can help to control this condition by blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. This is an ideal treatment for individuals with excessive under arm sweating who wish to have a drier under arm area.
Botox® Injection & Recovery
Botox® treatment for hyperhidrosis is a simple, non-surgical procedure performed in the office setting at The Choe Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The treatment takes approximately twenty minutes to complete and does not require anesthesia. During the procedure, the underarm area is prepped using iodine and corn starch to locate the spots with the highest density of sweat glands. Dr. Choe will then inject small amounts of Botox® underneath the skin through multiple injections.
There is no post-procedure aftercare required following Botox® injections for the treatment of hyperhidrosis. Though some patients may experience minor bruising at the injection site, recovery is minimal and patients are able to immediately return to work and most other activities. Results may last up to 6 months or longer. While side effects associated with Botox® are generally rare these may include headaches, respiratory infection, flu syndrome and nausea. Botox® injections should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation.
