Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
One of the most common facial features many people desire to change is the nose. Often times, individuals complain that the nose is either too big, too small, or too bumpy. I can think of two people in the last century who apparently loved their noses so much that they made millions of dollars talking about them: Jimmy “The Schnoz” Durante and Bob “Ski Nose” Hope. Neither one of those noses was attractive, but the two comedians certainly cashed in on them by calling attention to and making fun of them.
Misshapen noses are fine for comedians, but for the rest of us a misshapen nose may not be so funny. In fact, when others make jokes about your nose it can be very hurtful. But despair not! There is a simple remedy for asymmetrical or bumpy noses. It is called a non-surgical rhinoplasty, and it is an alternative to the conventional ‘nose job.’
INJECTABLE FILLERS
For those who are not yet ready for a surgical rhinoplasty, the non-surgical procedure could be an option. The procedure takes only a few minutes and the patient usually needs only a topical anaesthetic. There is no scarring after as there are no incisions made. Different injectables are available for this treatment including Juvederm®, Belotero® and Restylane®. These injectable fillers last from six to eighteen months, depending on which is used.
OPTING FOR SURGERY
Fillers are not the right choice for all problems with the nose. In fact, they are best reserved for minor irregularities, such as filling small indentations, and they can be particularly beneficial for addressing minor imperfections following rhinoplasty surgery. However, there are times when the tried-and-true, traditional approach is best. For patients looking to improve the nose on a more permanent basis or address more extensive concerns, rhinoplasty surgery is needed.
CHOOSING YOUR SURGEON
Administering fillers for non-surgical rhinoplasty can be tricky and requires an experienced and skilled physician. If you decide to go this route, be sure to choose your doctor carefully.
